PUBLIC OFFICIALS ON THE MOVE

 

Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG): Lake Forest City Councilmember Richard T. Dixon selected to be President of SCAG

 

Orange County

 

Placentia: City Manager Bob Dominguez retired; new City Manager is Troy Butzlaff, formerly Assistant City Manager of Palm Springs

Seal Beach: Gary A. Miller was appointed to the City Council to replace Councilmember Ray Ybaben, who resigned

Westminster: Community Development Director Don Anderson announced he will retire on July 28th after working for the city the past 37 years

 

 

Riverside County

Riverside County: County Executive Officer Larry Parrish announced he will retire July 30th

Canyon Lake: Councilmember Frank Kessler was removed from his duties as Vice Mayor on May 14th for disciplinary reasons by Council vote; Councilmember John Zaitz was appointed as Vice Mayor

Indian Wells: Mayor Mary Roche announced she will not seek reelection November 2008

Murrieta: Bruce Coleman fills newly created position of Economic Development Director

Rancho Mirage: Councilmembers Richard W. Kite and Gordon Moller reelected on April 8th; Ron Meepos assumes the post of Mayor

 

Riverside: Mayor Ron Loveridge announced he will seek reelection in November 2009

 

Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC): Stephanie Wiggins, Regional Programs Director, will be leaving for a position with San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG)

 

San Bernardino County

 

Adelanto: Mayor Jim Nehmens resigned and Mayor Pro Tem Charley Glasper has assumed the position as acting Mayor

 

Redlands: Daniel Hobbs, previously the city manager of Tracy, is the new Redevelopment Director

 

Yucaipa: City Manager John Tooker announced he will retire on October 3rd after managing the city since 1991

 

LOCAL CANDIDATES AND LOCAL MEASURES

 

June 3, 2008: Election Day 

 

 

Orange County

 

1st District Board of Supervisors: Janet Nguyen (Incumbent), Dina Nguyen (Garden Grove City Councilmember/Attorney), Hoa Van Tran (Consumer Attorney/Businessman)

3rd District Board of Supervisors: Bill Campbell (Incumbent), Donald Ritze (Businessman)

City of Irvine: Anti-Lobbying ballot measure.  This measure would prohibit the mayor and city council (and their executive assistants and appointed commissioners) from being compensated for lobbying any public agency in Orange County.  These individuals would also be prohibited from having any personal investment or monetary interest in a city contract.

 

Riverside County

1st District Board of Supervisors: Bob Buster (Incumbent/Farmer), Frank Schiavone (Riverside Councilmember/Businessman)

3rd District Board of Supervisors: Jeff Stone (Incumbent), Deane Foote (Organic Farmer/Businessman)

Menifee Cityhood:  Voters in the communities of Menifee, Sun City, Quail Valley, and part of Romoland will be asked if they want be a city.  They will be voting on 4 items: Cityhood; Name of new city (e.g. Menifee, Menifee Valley); Future city council elections to be by district or at large; and First 5 city council members by number of votes received.

 

San Bernardino County

1st District Board of Supervisors: Brad Mitzelfelt (Incumbent), Bob Conaway (Attorney), Bob Nelson (Retired Systems Analyst), Rita K. Vogler (Hesperia Councilmember)

3rd District Board of Supervisors: Dennis Hansberger (Incumbent/Businessman), Neil Derry (San Bernardino City Councilmember)

5th District Board of Supervisors: Josie Gonzales (Incumbent), Vince Laster (Write-In Candidate, Educational Assistant)

City of Colton (Mayoral Recall Election): Kelly Chastain (Incumbent/Mayor), Mel Albiso (Assistant Superintendent for the San Bernardino City Unified School District and a Board Member of the Colton Joint Unified School Board), Richard DeLaRosa (2nd District Councilmember/Peace Officer for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation), David Toro (1st District Councilmember/District Team Supervisor for a computer service company), Vincent Yzaguirre (3rd District Councilmember)

City of Loma Linda (3 seats): Robert Christman (Incumbent/Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley), Stan Brauer (Incumbent/Physician at Loma Linda University Medical Center), Rhodes Rigsby (Incumbent/Physician Administrator at Loma Linda University Medical Center), Ovidiu Popescu (Business Owner and Occupational Therapy Assistant), Phill Dupper (Detective for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department), Lem Leialoha (Retired Administrator and Educator), Jeffery Sonnentag (Biologist and Environmental Consultant).
